Helsinki Day at the Cable Museums

Helsinki’s birthday will be celebrated again on Wednesday 12th June. The Cable Museums are celebrating their hometown by offering free admission to all three museums all day and a variety of memorable programs. Note: The guided tours are available in Finnish only.

Program:

3 PM | Triplasti kivaa – three museum tour: The tour starts at 3 PM from museums’ lobby and offers a fast-paced, one-hour overview of the Theatre Museum, the Hotel and Restaurant Museum, and the Finnish Museum of Photography. Note, that the guided tour is available in Finnish only.

At the Hotel and Restaurant Museum

12 PM & 5 PM | Helsinki Day Guided Tour, Turbulent Decades: Dive into the restaurant atmosphere of the 1960s and 70s! The guide will be the exhibition’s scriptwriter Tiina Kiiskinen. Duration: 30 min. Participants: Max. 20 people (no advance registration). Note, that the guided tour is available in Finnish only.

4 PM–6 PM | Non-stop workshop: An exploration into the world of flavors: Test your senses in a playful taste school! We will explore sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami led by museum lecturer Aino Malminen. Suitable for all ages. Location: Nature Room of the Taste Matters exhibition. Note: We are unable to accommodate allergies during the workshop, the workshop will be held in Finnish.

Spartak Khachanov: The Impersonal – A breathtaking contemporary art exhibition.

At the Theater Museum

You can set off on the self-guided Circus Trail at your own pace. Along the trail, you will dive into the exhibition Amaze! Tales and Magic of Circus through tricky and fun questions. You can also explore the exhibition’s interactive activity points, Pepper’s Ghost and the shadow theatre, and finally share your own circus memory by drawing or writing. The Circus Trail is suitable for all ages, but reading skills are required.

In addition, you are welcome to explore the exhibitions. The exhibitions It’s Showtime and Amaze! Tales and Magic of Circus are open all day. The Arkadia Theatre will open to the public at 2:30 pm, after a children’s summer course. From then on, the Arkadia stage and dressing room will also be open for Helsinki Day visitors!

5–6 PM | Guided tour of the exhibitions at the Museum of Photography: We will tour the exhibitions Film Stills by Malla Hukkanen, Z Walsh: Feminine Man and Viewfinder with a guide. Note, that the guided tour is available in Finnish only.
